The Dow Jones sustainability index (DJSI) published yesterday the review of the large companies considered as the most sustainable for 2009. 33 have to 33 other have been added; among the most famous Coca- Cola and Johnson and Johnson.
This stock index specialized in companies leader in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) area was founded in 1999. It has contributed significantly to the growth of social responsible investment. Indeed if the very prestigious and serious Donw Jones institution has a business interest for it, it means it cannot be philanthropy. A survey conducted on a long period of time compared the DJSI performance with a major index; the MSCI world. The DJSI proved to perform better (Source SAM Group 2006).
Some may think it is unhealthy to have the finance world involved in CSR (Haven’t they provoked enough damages ..?). I am on the contrary convinced it can be a fantastic and powerful way to encourage the corporate world to fully integrate CSR in their business strategy.
Do you think the sustainability indexes can be a powerful to encourage the corporate world for CSR?
